OCEAN CITY, Md. – They’re preparing for December’s First Friday event, featuring free art openings and the big artisan fair. Development Director, Jessica Bauer, explains what the event is.

“First Friday is coming up, and it’s from 5 p.m. to 7 pm. It’s a special scenario, because of the holidays, and we will be having the artisan fair that night. We will also have Phil Croppers culinary students doing the food for us from Worcester Tech.”

The Art League of Ocean City’s annual Artisan Fair fills the Arts Center for two days with local and regionally made handcrafted items. Participating artisans include Savitri Khalsa, Theresa Alo, and Lisa Guerriero.Lisaguerrieroartisanfairlo

It’s one of the biggest weekends for the organization. Bauer tells WMDT that community is one of the major keys to success for the group.

“Our doors are open for free of charge everyday of the week, and we’re really excited to welcome people any day, but this particular weekend from the artisan fair, it’s extra special.”

The Thaler Gallery will feature the ‘Annual Members Juried Group Show.’ Jinchul Kim is a local artist and Professor of Art at Salisbury University. He will jury the exhibition and select the winners. Those people will be awarded cash prizes. Bauer says the selection process is strong.

“What happens is we had over 160 pieces submitted, and our jurer selects those that will be in, and 64 different pieces were selected for that show.”

If you want to shop on a budget, the Art League has Studio E, which features small works for holiday giving. “Especially if you want to be able to buy art for a friend, family, or loved one, and it might seem out-of-reach. These small works are priced really affordably,” said Bauer.

The Art League events will not stop there, the organization will host the popular Ocean City Film Festival in March 2026.
