HARBESON, Del. – The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company responded to a gas leak incident at a residence on Tuesday afternoon.

At 2:35 p.m. on Nov. 25, crews responded to a house on Leland Avenue in the Walden Development. Responding units were notified en route that a fencing contractor may have hit a gas line while attempting to install fence posts on the property. The respective utility service provider was sent to the incident location as well.

Crews believe that a private contractor was digging and struck the residential gas line feeding the structure, subsequently causing a gas leak. The gas company quickly discontinued service to the area pending replacement of the broken line.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated open access to the away pending arrival of emergency apparatus.
