Thanksgiving dinner giveaway
SALISBURY, Md. — The Salisbury Police Department handed out chicken dinners ahead of the holiday season in what officials said turned into a successful community event. Residents lined the parking lot of the Save A Lot to receive free holiday meals.
The department gave out items including soda, rolls and baking mixes. Perdue Farms distributed a little more than 500 chickens. United Way, the Wicomico County Partnership and other local organizations contributed donations. Officials said the effort was part of giving back to the community.
Sgt. Thomas Hitty of the Salisbury Police Department said, “Salisbury PD has teamed up with a number of stakeholders in our community — Perdue, the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore, United Way. Save A Lot has been a great partner in this. A lot of people recognized the need in our community to feed families, and we have taken that opportunity to do that.”
Residents waited in line between 1 and 6 p.m., and the lot was full throughout the afternoon. More on the community impact will air tomorrow on WMDT’s News Hour.
