During an investigation by police, Walmart staff advised authorities that Medler had in fact stolen multiple items, totaling over $2,000, and placed them in a vehicle in the parking lot. Medler was apprehended in the parking lot and placed under arrest. Upon a search of his person, Medler was found to be in possession of a substance, suspected to be methamphetamines.
Medler was charged with theft ranging from $1,500 to $10,000, false statements to a police officer, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance. He was later transported to the Talbot County Detention Center.
Officers also learned that Medler entered the store with a woman, later identified as 57-year-old Charleen Cox, also of Camden. She was later observed walking towards Giant with a shopping cart full of items. Officers made contact with Cox, and while speaking with her about the incident, they learned she had an outstanding arrest warrant through Delaware for theft.
