Lewes Man Arrested for DUI, Vehicular Assault in Harbeson after Three-Vehicle Crash

HARBESON, Del. – The Delaware State Police (DSP) have arrested a man following a three-vehicle crash that occurred Friday afternoon.

At approximately 3:45 p.m. on Oct. 31, troopers, along with the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company, Mid Sussex Rescue Squad, and Sussex County Paramedics, responded to a head-on collision on Hollymount Road, near Scottie Run.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a Cadillac CT4 was traveling eastbound on Hollymount Road. Simultaneously, a Dodge Durango, followed by a Dodge Charger, were traveling westbound on the same road.  The Cadillac crossed over the center line, entering the westbound lane, sideswiping the Durango and then striking the front of the Charger.

Upon arrival on the scene, troopers contacted the driver of the Cadillac, identified as 64-year-old Timothy Wolak of Lewes. While speaking with him, troopers saw several signs of impairment. Wolak was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries. Troopers responded to the hospital and obtained a blood search warrant for Wolak.

The driver of the Charger, a 26-year-old woman from Laurel, was trapped in her vehicle immediately following the accident. Emergency crews were assigned to prepare for vehicle extrication, vehicle stabilization, patient assessment and stabilization. The woman was ultimately flown by the DSP Aviation Section to an Christiana Medical Center with serious injuries.

The driver of the Durango, a 32-year-old woman from Georgetown, did not report any injuries.

After being released from the hospital, Wolak turned himself in at Troop 7 on Monday, Nov. 3. He was charged with first degree vehicular assault, driving under the influence of alcohol, and other related traffic offenses. Wolak was released on a $3,101 unsecured bond.
