Suspected Trash Fire Catches Mobile Home in Hurlock

HURLOCK, Md. – The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a residential fire that took place Wednesday afternoon.

At approximately 12:59 p.m. on Oct. 29, the Hurlock Volunteer Fire Department responded to a mobile home on Corkran Street following a homeowner’s report of a fire. Ten firefighters responded to the scene and were able to extinguish the fire within 15 minutes.

A preliminary investigation by crews determined that the fire originated in the trashcan area located outside of the home. The fire grew, extending into the residential structure.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office is continuing to investigate this incident.

An estimated total of $15,000 was sustained to the property. The family of five that lived in the mobile home is being assisted by the American Red Cross.
