Lewes man arrested on assault charges

LEWES, Del. – Delaware State Police arrested a Lewes man Wednesday morning on assault and other related charges.

Troopers say they responded to Beebe Medical Center shortly before noon for a reported assault. A 32-year-old female told police that she was assaulted by 50-year-old Donald Maull earlier that morning.

Further investigation revealed that the female victim responded to Maull’s residence in the 17000 block of Ward Avenue to retrieve some of her belongings, as she recently moved out. The two reportedly got into an argument when Maull hit her in the back of her head with a piece of lumber.

The victim was able to get help from a nearby neighbor and was taken to the hospital privately for treatment of a serious head injury.

Maull was located later that day while traveling as a passenger in a vehicle on Beaver Dam Road. He was found in possession of approximately 0.001 grams of crack cocaine as well as drug paraphernalia. He was subsequently charged with possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, second degree assault, aggravated menacing, possession of a controlled or counterfeit substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia, and is currently being held at SCI on $76,400 secured bond.
