Town of Secretary Installs Speeding Reduction Efforts
(SECRETARY, Md) -The Town of Secretary has recently implemented efforts to curb speeding down the community’s Main Street.
Earlier this year, Mayor Susan Dukes spoke with WMDT about the Maryland Pilot Project, geared towards curbing speeding.
The issue was especially a problem in front of Warwick Elementary School.
In the last couple of weeks, the state has worked with the small town to help implement quite a few things on their Main Street around the school.
From warning signs, to newly installed speed bumps, they’re working to keep speeders in check.
And Mayor Dukes says keeping the road walkable is a big motivation behind the project.
She tells us, “…Think about the children. Think about the people on Main Street that walk, that ride, bicycle. This is a residential area up and down through here. And we do have a lot of foot traffic. And our main concern has always been the safety of the residents and the people in town.”
Mayor Dukes says the speed bumps will be temporary, but the town is working with the Maryland Highway Safety Administration to have Red speed cameras set up near the elementary school.
“We do have the speed cameras coming. They will be installed shortly and with those tickets will be given out. We’ll give out more information and details on that when the plans become more finalized,” says Mayor Dukes.
According to Mayor Dukes, the state would be responsible for installing permanent speed bumps in front of the school, as Secretary’s Main Street is under state care and control.
