Millsboro Man Arrested on Drugs, Weapons Felonies After Multi-Month Drug Investigation

MILLSBORO, Del. – Delaware State Police (DSP) arrested a man on over 50 felony charges on Friday following a months long drug investigation.

Detectives from the DSP Sussex County Drug Unit conducted an investigation into 58-year-old John Bender of Millsboro after receiving information that he was dealing drugs from his residence. During that investigation, authorities observed evidence of drug dealing activity and obtained a search warrant for his house.

The search warrant was executed on Oct. 17 at the residence in the 32,000 block of South Captains Way. During the search warrant, Bender was detained in the house. Police found 22.9 grams of methamphetamine, with a digital scale and drug packaging materials. They also located 21 knives defined as deadly weapons, and four pairs of brass knuckles.

Bender is a convicted felon and is prohibited from possessing deadly weapons. He was taken to DSP Troop 4 and charged with 25 counts of possessing a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony and 24 counts of possessing a deadly weapon by a person prohibited, amongst other felony drug charges. Bender was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on a $102,200 cash bond.
