Virginia: violent crime up, property crime down

According to a new report from Virginia State Police, violent crime was up slightly and property crime was down in 2015.

Violent crime includes rape, murder, robbery and aggravated assault. They’ve increased by less than one percent from the previous year.

However, homicides specifically rose by more than thirteen percent. Property crime was down a little more than two percent.

Locally, Exmore saw a similar trend. The department says they hadn’t had a murder in ten years until 2015, when they had two. They also report that their property crime has “leveled off.”
