Ravens Fall Just Short In State Finals

The Sussex Tech softball’s great season came to end on Saturday afternoon, in an agonizing 2-1 loss in the DIAA State Championship game to Caravel. The Ravens gave up 2 first inning runs, before settling in but were never able to get their bats going themselves.
Sussex Tech would have their opportunity early, working the bases loaded with just one out. Holly Brooks though would work herself out of the jam for the Bucs, getting a strike out then ground out. Caravel would then strike first in the bottom of that frame, after working a couple runners on base before Brooks would slap a RBI single to right to score Samantha Esper. That was then followed by another RBI single to right by Jenifer Sieminski that would score Kayla Sobolak.
But the Ravens would settle in from there. Taylor Wroten would find her groove on the bump, and navigate through a tough Bucs lineup. Tech then nearly got a run back after Madison Watson roped a shot down the 3rd base line which would end up about 10 feet foul. The bats would eventually get going though. Taylor Collins would rope a deep double to right center to get to second. She wouldn’t be there for long though as Rylee Shockley would then drive her home with a RBI single to left.
The Ravens had worked back within a run, but that’s as close as they were going to get. Sussex Tech’s defense would keep them in it, but the bats never could get the big hit down the stretch, as the Ravens would run out of innings, and watch their season come up just short of the title.
