Police investigate unattended death
SALISBURY, Md. — The Salisbury Police Department is investigating an unattended death.
Authorities responded to Northwood Drive Sunday morning for reports of a deceased person found in a tent. A neighbor who discovered the individual alerted authorities at about 9:30 a.m.
EMS arrived at the scene shortly after and pronounced the individual dead at 9:36 a.m. Officials say the individual was homeless and residing at a camp alongside other people.
City Housing and Homelessness Manager Christine Chestnutt said federal budget cuts have limited the city’s ability to help the unhoused population.
“You cut that funding, then you lose staff, then you lose services, and then what? There’s just not enough services, and they keep getting cut every day. We don’t think we’ve seen the worst of it,” Chestnutt said.
Chestnutt said local shelters and organizations are doing all they can to prepare for the winter months.
