Delaware Fire Marshal Investigating Apartment Fire
GEORGETOWN, Del. – The Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating a multi-family residential structure fire that took place Saturday night.
Around 9:00 p.m. on Oct. 11, crews from the Georgetown Fire Company and assisting fire companies arrived at County Seat Apartments following a sprinkler activation. The structure was occupied at the time of the fie, but all occupants safely evacuated the building. Further investigation by crews found that a fire had occurred on an apartment balcony, but was subsequently contained by the building’s sprinkler system.
The Delaware Deputy State Fire Marshal responded to the scene and conducted an origin and cause investigation. The fire was determined to be accidental in nature and the result of discarded smoking materials. Damage was estimated at $1000. One firefighter was treated and released for a minor injury that occurred on scene.
