Ocean View man arrested for assaulting police officer
OCEAN VIEW, Del. – An Ocean View man was arrested Sunday afternoon on multiple charges after he reportedly assaulted a police officer.
We’re told that at around 3:30 p.m., troopers were called to Fox’s Pizza on Atlantic Avenue in Millville for a report of a bicycle theft in progress. A description of the suspect and bike were provided, and a short time later an Ocean View Police Officer saw the subject on Atlantic Avenue.
The officer made contact with the subject, identified as 34-year-old Christopher Thompson, and told him to wait for Delaware State Police to arrive on scene. Thompson reportedly began to walk away, and when the officer tried to take him into custody, Thompson resisted arrest and began hitting and kicking the officer. A bystander jumped in to help the officer take Thompson into custody.
The officer sustained minor injuries that did not require medical attention.
Thompson was charged with assault 2nd injure a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with force or violence, theft, disorderly conduct, and operating a bicycle on highways while DUI. He is currently being held at SCI on $8,501 cash only bond.
