Officials respond to Wicomico County Fire Chiefs Association’s decision

Last night, 47abc told you that the Wicomico County Fire Chief's Association voted to approve former station one volunteers' request for territory.

On Thursday, City and County officials are responding to the decision.

The motion was to let the volunteers cover the area in the county they previously served.

Salisbury Mayor Jake Day says the decision is "meaningless and nullified." Day is referring to a recent City-County fire service agreement where the volunteers were told they could be housed in a hangar at the Salisbury- Wicomico airport.

47abc reached out to County Executive Bob Culver. He tells us he was not surprised by the decision. But says the decision is still subject to approval by the City and County governments.

It's unclear when an actual decision could come, but online records show an open work session mentioning the Station one firefighters on May 2.
