Foodie Friday: Mobile Munchies
DELMAR, Del. – Food trucks have kind of been WMDT’s Leila Weah’s jam, as of late.
“[It’s] nice, perfect weather to be sitting outside in a sort of picnic style at the racetrack here, in Delmar, Delaware. We came upon Mobile Munchies– they specialize in soul food,” said Leila.
The owner, Tai, knows how to whip up some mean soul food. She made a fish platter, parmesan fries, honey old bay wings and delectable dessert surprise.
“These fries don’t need any type of seasoning. It’s just the perfect fry by itself,” said Leila, pick up another one. “A lot of times, I just opt to get regular fries, not truffle fries or anything, but these are delicious. I love these.”
After trying the fries, Leila moved on to the honey Old Bay wings.
“These are so crispy, so saucy, so honey drizzl-ey, so delicious,” Leila said, bringing a wing to her mouth.
“They fall right off the bone. Whatever concoction they have back there with the seasoning– obviously it’s honey Old Bay– but whatever else they put in there, it’s spectacular,” Leila said.
Now let’s move on to the main dish.
“They are not modest around here. They really filled this baby up; they’ve got crab cakes, crab balls, fish, shrimp, mac and cheese,” Leila said. “Whatever mix and blends of spices that they use for their crab needs to be studied, because it’s not too much, it’s not too little, it’s just where it needs to be.”
Of course, Tai works out of a food truck, so she has to get creative.
“I have got to have a sweet treat, and this is like the sweetest of all treats,” Leila said, eyeing the dessert. “It’s an apple pie egg roll. I don’t even know how they got an apple pie– obviously it’s not a whole apple pie– but look at this blanket! It’s a swaddled little apple pie in an egg roll, drizzled with some frosting.”
“I say this with full honesty and full transparency; this is one of the best sweet treats I’ve ever had in my life, I’m so serious. I want to order like 50 of these to go,” she added.
