Local woman, Janet Stephenson hopes to be next ‘Face of Halloween’
WORCESTER COUNTY, Md. – A Berlin woman is in a nationwide contest to become the next Face of Halloween.
Meet Janet Stephenson who is currently competing in the Colossal’s Face of Halloween, which began on August 25th and runs through October 30th.
She says it started when she was younger. “Ever since I’ve been a little girl, I have loved scary movies, horror movies, and made a haunted house in my garage.”
The competition raises awareness and funds for the ‘Starlight Children’s Foundation’, which helps hospitalized children feel a little better.
Janet Stephenson works at the Worcester County Tourism and Economic Developmental Office by day, but her hobby is quite spooky.
“I thought it would be a good part-time gig for me to do children’s birthday parties, so I learned how to face paint through the International Face Painting School.”
Famous actor Jamie Lee Curtis presents Colossal’s next Face of Halloween. Stephenson made it to the next round to not only raise spirits, but also raise funds for the foundation.
“They give toys, they make the experience of being in the hospital less scary, and when I read about it, I thought this is something I really wanna be involved with because it’s helping the kids.”
However, for Janet to get to the semifinals, she needs help from the community. On the Face of Halloween page, community members can donate to the Starlight Children’s Foundation.
Donating counts as votes for Stephenson, who is currently 2nd place. She needs a final push before next Thursday, Oct. 16th.
Janet Stephenson has one last word for the community.
“Aunt Janet says goodnight, my little family, wish me luck tomorrow on TV.”
