Pirate’s Wharf 5K
QUANTICO, Md. — The Eastern Shore Running Club’s annual Pirate’s Wharf 5K is set for Saturday, Oct. 11. Runners will travel through the crushed stone paths at Wicomico County’s Pirate’s Wharf Park, with free Playa Bowls as their incentive.
A new addition to this year’s race is a noncompetitive one-mile walk for those who don’t wish to run. The Eastern Shore Running Club, a nonprofit organization based in Salisbury, was founded to support the Lower Shore’s running community. This is the club’s second year hosting the event, according to President Vanessa Junkin.
“We are also going to have overall and age-group awards, free Playa Bowls for participants, and a DJ. It’s going to be a really fun time, and the proceeds will support our club as well as our scholarship fund,” Junkin said.
The nonprofit has awarded scholarships to two local high school graduating seniors each year since 2019. Race registration is $30, and the event will begin at 9 a.m.
