Shelter Skip Day!!

SALISBURY, Md. — The Brandywine Valley SPCA is offering “shelter skip days,” an opportunity to get shelter dogs out and about for the day.

All you have to do is visit. The shelter will match you with the perfect pup. Then you and your new buddy can spend a couple of hours out — at the beach, on the trails or enjoying a pup cup.

Participants can even request to make the skip day a slumber party. The shelter will provide all the supplies you may need.

The program offers a chance to make a difference in animals’ lives by allowing them to meet new people, have new experiences and enjoy a day out on the town. The BVSPCA has even had a few success stories.

Sussex Community Engagement Coordinator Mary Richardson said: “A family had taken a dog out on a skip day and gone to a public park. While there, they met a family who ended up adopting that dog. So they all went back to the shelter together and filled out the paperwork, and that was just awesome. That’s what it’s all about — the community engagement part of it, as well as the positive experience for our animals.”

The only requirements are that participants be at least 18, have a valid license for the shelter’s records, and keep the dogs within state lines.
