Fatal Car Crash on Salisbury Overhead Bridge

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury Police Department (SPD) responded to a fatal single-car accident that occurred on an overhead bridge early Sunday morning.

At approximately 4:05 a.m. on Sept. 28, officers responded to reports of a crash in the area of the overhead bridge located on Route 13 near Bridgeview Street.

Upon arrival, officers observed a Nissan Sentra that had apparently collided with the side barrier to the bridge, and had subsequently caught fire. Members of the Salisbury Fire Department were already on scene and extinguished the fire.

The driver of the Nissan, 18-year-old Jamal Purnell, was pronounced deceased at the scene by members of Salisbury EMS due to injuries from the collision and fire. The passenger, a 17-year-old male, was transported to the hospital where he was reportedly in stable condition.
