Medical Weight Loss Program at TidalHealth Seaford

SEAFORD, Del. – Dr. Sandra Palavecino spoke with WMDT about the TidalHealth Medical Weight Loss department in this week’s Health Beat, brought to you by TidalHealth.

Dr. Palavecino is the director of the program, and has specialized in control and obesity medicine since 2005. She says participants entering the program will have their first appointment with a main provider to evaluate the individual’s main concerns and challenges. The patient’s previous bloodwork will also be evaluated for any indicators of disease.

“And that, we will create a plan for them,” said Dr. Palavecino. “The approach nowadays for obesity [is] as a chronic disease. So it is a multidisciplinary approach. We will have medical weight loss specialists like me, we will have dietitians, we will have exercise specialists, we will have even surgeries that can be operated by the surgeons.”

Dr. Palavecino also emphasized that the treatment plan that works for one individual will not be the universal solution.

“I cannot give the same program to everybody who comes in new that day because it’s not going to work the same for everyone,” she says.

Support groups are held every week to help patients to stay connected, to have a place to ask questions, and to relate to others navigating similar journeys.

Remote appointments are available to patients, but providers ask that individuals book their first appointment in person.
