Pemberton 24 kicks off

SALISBURY, Md. — The Pemberton 24 kicks off Friday, Sept. 19, at 6 p.m., with an estimated 450 runners and 54 teams lacing up their running shoes.

The Pemberton 24 is unlike any other race. Beginning Friday at 6 p.m., 5Ks will start every hour for 24 consecutive hours at Pemberton Park in Salisbury. Runners will need to bring headlamps, and instead of being timed traditionally, they will earn points for each 5K completed. Participants can run as individuals or as part of a four-person team.

Race director and founder Trent Swanson said people of all fitness levels are welcome to join.

“It’s a lot of fun for all levels of runners — fast runners, slow runners, endurance runners. And unlike a relay, teams can actually run together,” Swanson said.

The race’s “mega aid station” will be stocked with cold water, snacks, Perdue chicken, electrolytes and, in true Delmarva fashion, Smith Island Cake.
