Delaware Police Investigating Fatal Crash in Georgetown
GEORGETOWN, Del. – Delaware State Police are investing a fatal crash involving a Mack truck that occurred on Monday afternoon.
At approximately 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 15, a Nissan Altima was traveling southbound down Dupont Boulevard, approaching the intersection at Redden Road. At the same time, a Mack Anthem truck pulling an empty grain trailer was stopped northbound at the intersection, intending to turn left onto Redden Road. A posted yield sign controls this crossover.
The Mack truck failed to yield the right of way and turned left through the crossover into the southbound lanes. As the vehicle turned, the Nissan struck the right side of the trailer.
The driver of the Nissan, a 49-year-old woman from the Bronx, New York, was wearing a seatbelt. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity is being withheld until her family is notified.
The driver of the Mack Anthem truck, a 76-year-old man from Cambridge, Maryland, was not injured.
