Shore Up! recruiting foster grandparents

One local organization is matching senior citizens with children in the community through the Foster Grandparent Program. Shore Up! is enrolling senior citizens ages 55 and older to volunteer their time to mentoring students on the lower shore. During the program foster grandparents meet with children at their schools, help them with homework ,and serve as role models. Program officials tell us this is a good way to establish a relationship that both groups can enjoy and benefit from.

Denise White, the  Program Director for the Foster Grandparent Program says,
“They love giving hugs and a lot of times they enjoy learning new things and new experiences. They get to meet new people while they are doing it. And they get greater joy seeing the student that they have helped all year long.”

Shore Up! tells us they are looking to add twenty new grandparents for the upcoming school year. If any grandparents are interested in participating in this program they are asked to contact Shore Up officials to complete an application.
