Foodie Friday: Crabs to Go

BERLIN, Md. – The folks at Crabs to Go in Berlin know a thing or two about seafood.

The family- owned business has been a staple in the community for three decades, specializing in everything crabs, shrimp and fish. Alexia McDonald made WMDT’s Leila Weah two loaded up shrimp tacos and their to-die-for fried crab cake.

“We’re going to stack it up with all of my favorites. We’re going to put the tomato on, then we’re going to hit it with a little lettuce, and we’re going to take the bun and fold it on top,” Leila said, fixing her sandwich just how she likes it.

“They have their own crab cake recipe; you can really taste the freshness of it– they’ve been doing this for 30 years, so they’re veterans in this crab cake game. It’s so good,” Leila said with her eyes closed, nodding happily to herself.

Fun fact about Crabs to Go, for 30 years, they’ve sourced all of their seafood right here in the U.S., making their shrimp tacos an all-American delight.

“This is a beautiful shrimp taco, I’m not going to lie,” said Leila. “It’s a decent sized shrimp taco as well, and it already has the sauce on top, so I don’t even have to dip it in anything.”

“The pickled beat, the spicy mayo, the Pico de Gayo all in this one delicious taco, I love it! The six shrimp on top too, nice and citrusy,” she added.

For owner John WittMyer, it’s not just about serving the locals, it’s about making an impact on everyone who passes through our Eastern Shore.

“We get a lot of destination people, Virginia, Philly, they drive down for the day; they get their car in the morning, they come here, they hang out, they eat some food, pack a cooler up, take it back home, and we’ll see them again in a month,” said John.
