Dress for Success is a go!

SALISBURY, Md. — Today marks the start of the Dress for Success event in Salisbury.

The two-day giveaway provides free professional clothing to people in Wicomico County. The event, held in partnership with Wicomico Goes Purple, supports people in recovery as they prepare to reenter the workplace. Program coordinator Alyssa Gammel said organizers hope to see as many participants as possible.

“As many as possible. We have so many clothes here, but community members have been donating all month long, so we have everything from men’s shirts to pants, women’s dresses, nice blouses, shoes, jewelry. It’s really exciting to see,” Gammel said.

Delmarva Power also contributed, donating clothing for the drive. Nicole Bruno, who works in the company’s customer service department, said helping the community was an easy decision.

“We put some boxes out. They were looking for business attire for men and for women — everything from ties to jewelry to coats. We ended up collecting more than 200 items in about two weeks. Then we got together for a little event, organized everything and delivered it to the nonprofit. It was really fun,” Bruno said.

The event continues tomorrow and is open to the public.
