Parkside notifies parents of handgun on campus

SALISBURY, Md. – Wednesday morning, Parkside High School sent out a notice to parents informing them that a student brought a loaded handgun onto school grounds.

Upon being made aware that the student had a handgun in their possession, the Parkside administration worked in tandem with their School Resource Officer and local law enforcement to address the situation. The notice stated that the student was taken into custody by law enforcement and that normal school operations continued without disruption.

The swift and coordinated response by our staff and safety partners ensured the safety of all students and staff. Wicomico County Public Schools takes situations such as these very seriously and will enforce the Code of Conduct to its fullest extent,” wrote Paul Butler, Director of Communications and Community Outreach for Wicomico County Public Schools, in a statement to the media. He continued, “The safety and well-being of our school community is always our top priority. We continue to encourage students and staff to report any concerns immediately—if you see or hear something, say something.”

Criminal charges are pending, according to the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office.
