Wor-Wic Celebrates Local Artists

SALISBURY, Md. — Wor-Wic Community College will host an event next Friday celebrating local artists, including Somerset County decoy carver Rich Smoker, children’s book illustrator Brian Collier, and many more guests.

Visitors can expect ceramics, paintings, movie posters, spoken word and novels.

The showcase will highlight the vibrancy of Delmarva’s arts community, with food trucks and other activities.

Tiffany Kotra-Loos, an associate professor in the Physical Therapist Assistant Program at Wor-Wic and co-chair of the event, said, “This is the second year that we’ve had this event. It’s the Community Arts Showcase of Excellence, and it’s really about celebrating the community that we have. We have such a rich community here, and art is a wonderful way to express the different feelings that people have.”

Every 15 minutes for an hour, a slate of artists will rotate on stage. Performers will include the Heart and Soul Step Team as well as the Salisbury Children’s Choir.

Faculty said the college is on a mission to bring the community together and create lasting memories for local artists.

David Mongor, an associate professor of English and Spanish at Wor-Wic and event co-chair, said, “We’re actually going to be painting a community mural together outside. And I think that’s going to be the highlight, and it will be a great memory from this event to celebrate Wor-Wic’s 50th anniversary.”

The event will take place Friday, Sept. 12, from 3 to 8 p.m.
