Volunteers pack 1.2K care packages for deployed troops

MARDELA SPRINGS, Md. – In Mardela Springs, hundreds of people across Delmarva came together on Sunday to support local troops stationed around the world.

The event took place at the Mardela Springs Volunteer Fire Department.

Volunteers packed up more than a thousand boxes filling them with things like tooth brushes, candy, deodorants and even thank you letters.

On top of that, first responders got recognized as well as George Jackson who sends scrolls signed by the community to troops overseas in time for Christmas.

“We are thinking of them, we appreciate them and it’s nice for them receive something from a bunch of strangers just to wish them happy holidays,” said Operation We Care Co-Founder, Diana Merritt.

These packages will be shipped to ten different countries and will be in the hands of troops within the next weeks.
