Foodie Friday: Above The Dunes
REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – Above the Dunes in Rehoboth Beach is a coastal gem with a diverse menu.
The chef whipped up everything, from octopus, to wagyu burgers, to delectable desserts.
WMDT’s Leila Weah started off by trying their crisp dessert, with a side of their homemade ice cream.
“I know that you typically do dessert last, but we’re going to go backwards, for two reasons. One, I love dessert; I have a really bad sweet tooth, and two, I don’t want this beautiful ice cream to melt,” Leila said.
“It’s so, so soft and it tastes like the cow is just chillin’ out in the back, because you can definitely taste that [it’s] homemade,” she added.
The chef didn’t hold back at all. He pulled out a full octopus and cooked it with herbs and citrus galore. He plated it right over their apple puree.
“I’ve had calamari before, but this is a little bit out of my comfort zone,” Leila said. “The sauce on the bottom, beneath the octopus, has a citrusy, almost sweet tang to it. You can tell that this was cooking with all the herbs and citrus that the chef put it in the pot with.”
If you couldn’t tell by now, this restaurant is all about their seafood. It’s only right that they have us try their famous lobster mac.
“It’s perfectly seasoned, the mac, everything, and that crunch on top is really what the dish needs; I think the dish would be missing without that crunch on top,” Leila said.
The chef certainly saved the best for last. He brought out a gigantic seafood tower stacked with lump crab, shrimp, snow crab legs and oysters.
“I like the choices that they added with it, and you can really tell that this restaurant is centered around seafood. This is a good choice, so if you were to come here, you definitely have to order.”
