LEWES, Del. Delaware State Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash that left one woman dead and several others injured Tuesday afternoon near Angola.

The crash happened around 1:55 p.m. on Aug. 19, when a Honda CRV traveling south on Harts Road stopped at a stop sign at the intersection with John J. Williams Highway, police said in a statement Wednesday.

As a Freightliner Cascadia tractor-trailer approached from the west on John J. Williams Highway, the Honda entered the intersection and attempted to turn left onto the highway, heading east. The Honda entered the path of the Freightliner and was struck on the driver’s side, investigators said.

A 68-year-old woman from Lewes, who was seated in the rear left passenger seat of the Honda, was taken to a nearby hospital where she died from her injuries. Authorities are withholding her name pending notification of next of kin.

Three others in the Honda were also injured. The 78-year-old male driver and a 36-year-old front seat passenger, both from Lewes, were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. A 37-year-old woman from Jersey City, New Jersey, who was in the rear right seat, sustained critical injuries, police said.

The 64-year-old driver of the Freightliner, from Bowie, Maryland, refused medical treatment at the scene.

John J. Williams Highway was closed for several hours while investigators processed the scene and crews cleared the wreckage.
