Group Seeking Answers in Dorchester K9 Death
(DORCHESTER COUNTY, Md) – Earlier this summer, Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office K9, Ender passed away. Now the group who brought Ender to Dorchester is looking for answers surrounding his death.
Carol Skaziak with the Throw Away Dogs Project recalled the death of Ender in June, and the heartbreak hearing one of Throw Away Dogs canines met an end that wasn’t in the line of duty, or retirement.
“We are, seeking counsel out to find out the truth, transparency to what exactly has happened to our our dog,” says Carol.
The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Ender.
Sheriff Mike Lewis says Ender’s death was the result of being left in a hot car; A death both he and Carol say was preventable.
Sheriff Lewis tells us, “And it’s very sad. And we investigated thoroughly and we handed over our findings weeks ago to the State Attorney’s office for their review. And we’ll wait to see what happens.”
But for Carol, this is important to prevent these kinds of deaths moving forward, as she and others see K-9 Units as officers too.
She says, “They are here to protect our community. Andrew was there to to protect the citizens of Dorchester who protected him. Nobody. Right. No one.”
Sheriff Lewis says possible criminal charges may be coming, but that is the decision of the State’s Attorney’s Office.
We also reached out to the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office, and they could not comment on a pending case.
