Importance of using sunscreen

Summer time means fun in the sun, but don’t forget the sunscreen! Cara Rozaieski, Director of Health and Prevention Communications at the Wicomico County Health Department says the most important thing to do, is to use it, even on cloudy days.
Rozaieski says using SPF 15 works for every day use, but if you’re going to be out in the sun for long periods of time, SPF 30 is a good option. She adds that when shopping, always look for broad spectrum meaning one that protects against UVA and UVB rays. She says UVA will give you sunburn and the UVB causes wrinkles.
Rozaieski tells 47 ABC, “The tricky thing about sun damage is, ok you can get a burn right now but you might not and most people don’t show the damage until years later and that’s when the wrinkles and the spots and the little bumps start showing.”
Rozaieski adds that the idea that having a base tan will protect you from sunburn or skin damage is false. Any type of tan is evidence of skin damage.
