Who killed Tyron?: 1 year later, police, community still searching for answers
SALISBURY, Md. – For a year, police have been investigating the shooting that claimed the life of 10-year-old Tyron Colbert Jr. in Salisbury.
Now, Corporal Kyle Braightmeyer with Maryland State Police said tips from the public are what can help this investigation.
“We are greedy to ask for more, but we know how it gets when it gets to a cold case, and the more is better for us,” said Braightmeyer.
Tyron was shot and killed while playing video games in his home. Braightmeyer said they just haven’t gotten enough tips, given the circumstance.
“We’re still doing several investigative tests to try to get to the bottom of it; we have some things in motion, however, we just haven’t gotten the assistance from the general public we thought we might, due to the age of the victim,” said Braightmeyer.
Police have done interviews, combed through surveillance footage and even have people of interest they’ve looked into, but no solid suspect.
Pastor Ashley Mitchell with Supernatural Faith Center teaches a Bible study that Tyron attended. She said the last year without justice has had a ripple effect in the community.
“While Tyron is no longer with us, the impact of not knowing who’s associated with his loss will inadvertently perpetuate the violence that we see in our community,” said Ashley. “We have an obligation to mitigate that.”
But sometimes justice has no time limit, and Ashley’s husband, Pastor Craig Mitchell said now might be the time for it.
“Let’s have a settling, bring closure, because when more things are prolonged, it continues to eat in the grief process,” said Craig.
The Mitchells will be hosting a prayer vigil for Tyron on August 27th at Unity Square. It’s set to start at 7pm.
