Wicomico State’s Attorney’s Office Announces Sentencing in 2023 Homicide

(SALISBURY, Md) – A suspect in a 2023 homicide learning his fate, more than a year after law enforcement tracked him down and placed him in handcuffs.

The Wicomico County State’s Attorney’s Office announced the sentencing of 19 year-old Cashmir Holbrook late Friday afternoon.

Holbrook is charged with First-Degree Murder and Use of a Firearm in a Violent Crime.

The incident took place in April of 2023. where Holbrook shot and killed a 16 year old and injured a 20 year old.

We met with Scott Messersmith, the Deputy State’s Attorney for Wicomico County about sentencing Holbrook after all this time.

Scott tells us, “It certainly is sad that someone it’s sad whenever someone loses their life. It’s certainly sad when someone that young loses their life. We worked closely with the families involved and we’re happy to bring some measure of justice or closure to them.”

Holbrook has been sentenced to life with all but 40 years suspended for murder. and a ten-year term for a firearm charge, as well as 10 years for first degree assault.

The State’s Attorney’s Office says they’re hoping one thing will come out of his sentencing.

Scott says, “This kind of behavior goes on in Salisbury. It’s no secret to law enforcement and certainly no secret of this office. I hope this helps, among other things, raise community awareness that this is happening and we all need to do what we can to put an end to it.”

The state’s attorney’s office also says that another defendant is currently awaiting trial for the Pizza City shooting.
