United States Congressman Andy Harris speaks at White Marlin Open

OCEAN CITY, Md. – U.S. Rep. Andy Harris attended the White Marlin Open weigh-ins Thursday to speak on a variety of topics. He and other local leaders discussed efforts to support tourism, local fisheries, and family-owned businesses on the Eastern Shore.

Rep. Harris also commented on the fight to prevent U.S. Wind from building a facility off the coast of Ocean City. He has been active against the potential offshore project and called a federal government decision in a Delaware federal court filing a win.

“We’ve known for years that commercial fisheries are going to be affected. We also know that the defense of the country is at risk, along with marine life and Coast Guard safety. For a variety of reasons, we’ve been trying to get many allies in on this fight. Pretty clearly, the White Marlin Open is one of those allies.”

He attributed the victory to the federal government’s intention to reconsider approval of the U.S. Wind offshore project.

Other local leaders at the event included State Senator Mary Beth Carozza, Delegate Wayne Hartman, and Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan.

WMDT will provide updates as new information becomes available.
