White Marlin Open day one in the books

OCEAN CITY, Md. – Day one of the largest billfish tournament in the world is in the books.

With over 7-million dollars in prize money on line–and the tournament already extended by 2 additional days due to offshore weather–128 of 286 registered boats took to the water on Monday in the hopes that they might be able to reel in a money-maker at the White Marlin Open.

With a 50 pound minimum for tuna, two boats tied for the largest: C-Student and Bow Down both reeled in fish that weighed 52.5 pounds

The minimum weight for dolphin is 20 pounds, and Barbara B led the field bringing in a dolphin that topped out at 32.5 pounds. But Barbara B’s real triumph was the 929.5 pound blue marlin she brought to Harbour Island Marina, caught by Drew Osmeyer; the 5th largest blue marlin ever weighed in at the tournament.
