Salisbury Mayor Randy Taylor Involved in Pedestrian Accident

City Seal

SALISBURY, Md. — Salisbury Mayor Randy Taylor was involved in an incident this morning in which his vehicle hit the wheel of an assistive walker being used by a man crossing the street on South Boulevard. Minor injuries were reported and the man crossing with the walker refused medical treatment.

Here is Mayor Taylor’s full statement:

I would like to speak directly to an incident which occurred earlier today.
About 8:30 this morning, I was involved in a minor traffic accident involving a pedestrian pushing a walker on South Blvd in the City. While the exact details of the accident are still being reviewed, the pedestrian was not hit—it seems only the wheel of the walker made contact with the rear of my vehicle.
Fortunately, what could have been a serious accident ended with the pedestrian experiencing only minor abrasions. The pedestrian was offered but refused medical treatment at the scene.
I was present at the scene of the accident throughout the morning with the State Police as they conducted an independent investigation. Both the pedestrian and I cooperated with the investigation and did not disagree on the facts of what occurred. All protocols were followed, and we are hoping to get a final report of facts in the next 10 days. In an effort to be both transparent and avoid misleading facts, I wanted to share this information with you, my fellow citizens.
I recognize that events like this call for full disclosure. It is in that spirit; I am attempting to be forthright in this process. The intersection at which the accident occurred is maintained by the State Highway Administration but underscores the need for continued effort for pedestrian safety.
I am happy to have delivered the pedestrian a new walker courtesy of the Salisbury Lions Club.
Sincerely,
Mayor Randolph J. Taylor
