Nextdoor app launches pet directory

The app Nextdoor being often used for community members and now, pets are being added to the mix.
The free private social network is meant to keep residents and community members connected, such as finding a last-minute baby-sitter or a rash of car break-ins.
The network launched a pet directory Tuesday, allowing neighbors to add photos of their pets and identifying details to the neighborhood directory.
We're told the purpose is to help reunite lost pets with their families. Nextdoor officials say majority of their existing lost and found sections are pets.
Jen Burke, senior communications manager, says this new feature would centralize the posts for lost pets.
"Usually, pets go missing very close to your actual home and so obviously naturally, the first people you would turn to is your community because they live right around you and so neighbors can be extremely vital in returning a lost pet to its owner," explains Burke.
Tuesday's launch applies nationwide. We're told this new feature is free.
