UPDATE: Wicomico County Council moves forward with its sewer and water master plan

Salisbury, Md- In Wicomico County, the County Council has taken a major step toward its sewer and water master plan.

Council President John Cannon said officials are working to help homeowners remove failing septic systems and install a sewer extension within the city of Salisbury. A total of 194 homes are included in the plan, with 165 septic tanks located between Regency Drive and the Presidents Area, and 29 tanks between North and South Delano Avenue.

Homeowners would have the opportunity to opt in, potentially saving thousands of dollars.
As a result, homeowners would be required to pay quarterly bills, potentially in the range of 300 dollars.
if they choose not to, and their system does fail, they would have to pay up 6 thousand dollars to opt in.

Cannon said he believes this is a great first step toward the overall goal for the county.

“It’s the first major step in our water sewer master plan, where we’re actually going to be able to hopefully salvage a lot of the failing or for future failing septic systems within the county that we’re aware of. A lot of houses that are that have had septic systems for over 50 years. And we know that that’s not a good thing.” he adds.

The County Council approved funding for this effort last night.
