Two sloth babies born at Salisbury Zoo
SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury Zoo announced on Thursday that two sloth babies have arrived.
Zoo officials say that back in July, zoo keepers suspected that one or two of the female sloths might be pregnant, and at the end of July, 8-year-old Buttercup and 6-year-old Mia both gave birth to baby sloths. Staff has been monitoring the babies to make sure they were nursing and gaining weight.
We’re told the moms and babies have constant access to the indoors as well as the outdoors, and a few visitors have gotten to see the babies clinging to their mothers outside. Because they are nocturnal, they spend most of the day resting in private off-exhibit building.
