Police: man arrested following attempted robbery

GEORGETOWN, Del. – Georgetown Police arrested a man Monday evening after he allegedly tried to steal a victim’s cell phone.

According to police, the incident happened at around 7 p.m. on Bramhall Street. The victim was reportedly walking down the street when they were approached by a man who asked for money. When the victim told the man that they didn’t have any money, the man asked the victim to check and verify that they didn’t have any money.

The victim then continued walking toward DuPont Boulevard to try to get away from the man, but the man followed the victim and forced his hand into the victim’s pants and tried to take the victim’s phone. The victim then began trying to flag vehicles that were traveling on DuPont Boulevard, and the man fled as a result.

Police observed a man matching the description of the suspect near the intersection of Depot and Layton Streets later in the evening. The suspect was identified as 20-year-old Alex Lopez, and police took him into custody without incident.

Lopez was charged with attempted robbery second degree and was released on unsecured bail.
