Laurel Claims District 3 Title To Advance To World Series

The Laurel softball team swept their double header Sunday night over Millsboro 12-2 and 11-6 to claim the District 3 Title. With the win, Laurel advances to the World Series which will start next Sunday.
In game 1, Millsboro would be able to strike first in the 2nd. They would work the bases loaded with no out before Morgan Burton would rope a shot center to score Kayla Booros and Rylee Shockley. They nearly plated more as a fly ball would be sent to deep center, but Laurels Paige Lynch would make the catch, then fire home to catch the runner for the double. That would spark her team as their offense would come alive. Jenna Calloway would rope a deep 2 RBI double to left to score Lynch and Maria Solis to get it started. Then Shannon Lord would hit a solo shot to left to stretch the lead as her team would grab control of the game. The lead would continue to swell before Logan Walls would end it with an infield RBI single to score Calloway.
Millsboro would again jump out in front in game 2, grabbing a 1-0 lead. But from there, the bats would get red hot for Laurel. Walls would blast a shot to center for a RBI double. Jessica Evans then added a 2 RBI double, along with another RBI double from Lord. The lead would stretch to 11-1 after both Jordyn Virden and Raegan Jackson came through with RBI base knocks of their own. Finally though, Millsboro would find their groove. They would climb to within 5 after getting RBI base knocks from Burton and Jordan DiFava. Laurel though would be able to close the game out after a huge inning ending double play by Walls in the 6th, after she caught a line drive with the bases loaded, then fired to 1st to pick off the runner there. The pitching would do the rest as Laurel was able to close it out for the win.
