Local organization still searching for host families for students from Spain
Salisbury, MD- On June 25th, students between the ages of 13-16 will be coming to Salisbury from Spain, to learn about the American culture.
Josie Rodriguez, a former host mom and a local coordinator for Global Friendships, said the students are arriving at an exciting time.
“I would want them to have the true American experience; experience the Fourth of July, BBQ’s, trips to the beach,” said Rodriguez.
Carolina Otal Alcázar was here just last summer and is set to come back this academic year. She said her favorite takeaway from her last visit was the American eats.
“Yea, I really like the food for example, the peanut butter; I was totally into it. I also brought a lot of expressions from my host family that was really fun, really funny.” said Otal Alcázar.
Many students are looking for host families, Rodriguez said this program is a key to forever friends… and that’s why organizers said you should consider getting involved.
“It is an amazing experience and wonderful opportunity to you as parents to make lifelong connections with someone in another country,” said Rodriguez.
Otal Alcázar, recalling her nostalgia of America with her host family said. “Its impacted me in a really good way. also it makes my stay there really special. it makes me feel like I’m really in the family.”
