Good Morning Delmarva discusses the success and community involvement of Board of Regents Student Excellence Scholarship recipient Vicky Vazquez
WMDT – Earlier this week, we introduced you to a recipient of the Board of Regents Student Excellence Scholarship.
This morning, we are met another recipient from Salisbury University, Vicky Vazquez, who stopped by to share more about how this scholarship will help her in her pursuit of becoming an E.S.O.L. teacher.
We’re told Vasquez won for the outreach or leadership category and was inspired to become a teacher because she was a former E.S.O.L. student herself.
She says that students in these programs struggle with speaking anxiety as they fear being bullied.
Vicky says your voice is powerful, so she feels it’s important that students have E.S.O.L. teachers in their school to help encourage and empower them.
Vazquez will also be visiting Thailand later this year as a Fullbright student and wants to attend the University of Maryland College Park TESOL program when she returns.
She hopes to learn about other avenues to reach the community during her time abroad, in the hopes of increasing the number of resources available to the Latino community on Delmarva.
