MILFORD, Del. – Milford Police say a trespassing complaint led to drug charges for a Milford man over the weekend.

Just before 1 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to the Rodeway Inn in the 1000 block of N. Walnut Street, arriving at the scene to learn that a man was supposed to vacate his rented motel room, but was refusing to leave. The man, identified as 35-year-old Dieter Smith, reportedly became disorderly with officers and started intentionally damaging items in the room. Police were able to take Smith into custody and found him to be in possession of drug paraphernalia and crack cocaine.

Officers allegedly found numerous materials consistent with the manufacturing of methamphetamine and requested the assistance of DNREC to examine the items in the room. Further investigation revealed that the materials had not yet been used to create methamphetamine, and DNREC properly disposed of the materials.

Smith was subsequently charged with unlawful to knowingly operate or attempt to operate a clandestine laboratory, resisting arrest, possesssion or consume a controlled or counterfeit substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal mischief under $1000, disorderly conduct, and second degree criminal trespass. He was held on an $11,500 secured bail.
