UPDATE: Lightning strike ruled official cause of Farmers Bank of Willards fire

Members of the Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal have confirmed a lightning strike caused a fire in the attic of the Farmer’s Bank of Willards Thursday afternoon.

The blaze reportedly happened around 2:00 PM, and employees of the building reported nearby authorities.

Officials tell 47 ABC there were no injuries.

The State Fire Marshal notes that about $500,000.00 structural damage was sustained, along with about $250,000.00 in contents.

The blaze reportedly took about an hour to control, and 40 firefighters were on scene.
