Townsend man leads Capitol Police, Dover Police on chase after fleeing courthouse

Delaware Capitol Police say a Townsend man in custody at the Kent County Family Court broke free from his restraints and led officers on a foot and vehicle chase Thursday.
Officials say George Wallace, 31, was issued a commitment order for failing to appear and was taken into custody at the Family Court building in Dover. Wallace was reportedly able to free himself from his restraints and and ran out of the building.
Capitol Police chased after Wallace, who police say got into a vehicle and drove away. During the foot pursuit, one officer was reportedly injured, though police did not specify how.
Dover Police were alerted to be on the lookout for the vehicle and located the vehicle soon after. As Dover Police began pursuing Wallace, he fled the vehicle and once again tried fleeing by foot, officials said. After a short chase, police say Wallace was taken back into custody.
Wallace is charged with third degree escape, felony resisting arrest, misdemeanor resisting arrest, criminal mischief and first degree assault on a law enforcement officer. Police say Wallace has been committed on both his original capias and a $14,550 cash bond from his new charges related to fleeing.
