Sen. Buckson discusses potential Hope Center in Kent County
DOVER, Del. – State Senator Eric Buckson held a meeting Monday to discuss a possible future Hope Center for Kent County.
Currently, the only Hope Center in existence is the one up in New Castle County.
The Hope Center looks to provide financial support and house individuals for those experiencing homelessness.
Senator Buckson and a group of others visited that facility, wanting to see what the Center has to offer in terms of services that could be replicated in Dover.
The meeting held Monday was a follow up conversation to that visit to discuss what it would look like.
“There’s no concrete plans, I know the governor has expressed a strong interest in this, but right now this is just what you heard, kind of a fragmented discussion to say hey, in this space, where are we, what do we see and what is it that we might be able to do,” said Sen. Buckson.
One of the ideas was to have a physical Hope Center in Dover or using parts of the of the Hope Center model to help improve the quality of care available in the area.
“If it’s a Hope Center model that involves an actual structure, a physical location as a basis, as a ground zero, we can do that, and I think it should be,” said Buckson, “but if it isn’t, then what parts of that model that creates what we just heard, continuity of care can we implement.”
Senator Buckson adds he also wants to see a robust detox facility location below the canal, similar to what they have in New Castle with Kirkwood.
