Salisbury Zoo Updates
SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury Zoo over the past few weeks has gained a lot of attention for one thing or another, and WMDT has been keeping up with Zoo’s Director and has the latest update.
The Salisbury Zoo is saying goodbye to 15-year-old Chaska, their beloved Andean bear. She’s all ready for retirement, and because she was such a beauty, her bloodline will help preserve the species.
Zoo Director Chuck Eicholtz says it a bittersweet occasion, but things are in the works. “Unfortunately, because of the size of the zoo, we only have really one location for a new bear exhibit, and that’s where the current bear exhibit is. So, once she leaves, we’ll basically start our design and construction process and hopefully within the next 2 years or so we’ll have this brand-new state-of-the-art facility.”
Chaska will be sent to New Orleans. In the meantime, the Zoo has plenty of animals to see and events to attend. Visit their website and be sure to stop by when you have the chance.
